Continuing Education Units at The University of Alabama

The University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies will award Continuing Education Units (CEU's) to participants who attend the complete program of a conference or workshop. CEU's have been designed to give recognition to persons continuing their education and keeping up-to-date in their chosen fields or professions. Similar to credits that allow you to transfer degree work from one school to another, CEU's make it possible to document noncredit work completed. CEU's may be used as evidence of increased performance capabilities and for job advancement. One CEU is awarded for 10 contact hours of participation.

If you desire, a "Certificate of Continuing Education Unit Credit" is available to you. Many people submit the certificate to their employers to be placed in their personnel file. Send this request form and payment of $15.00 to Registration Services no later than one week after you have attended the conference or workshop. Your certificate will be processed within four to six weeks after the receipt of your request.

Attached is the information on the awarding of CEU's for non-credit programs here at The University of Alabama. Information included is as follows:

  1. CEU Program Information Sheet
  2. CEU Program Categories – to be used in completing section I of the CEU Program Information Sheet
  3. CEU Completion Report (a final roster of participants)
  4. CEU Request Form – can be copied and distributed to each participant if the program sponsor is not covering the cost of processing the certificates. Each certificate processed is $15.00.
  5. There will be a $250.00 non-refundable processing fee. Please email Mike Maxwell for payment information.

In order to approve a program in advance for CEU's, we will need the CEU Program Information Sheet completed down to section IX. A copy of any brochure or agenda on the specific program would also be helpful in determining the number of CEU's that can be awarded. We will need a short bio or vita for all instructors. These must include experience and educational background. *The CEU Program Information Sheet and agenda information has to be received in our office at least one month before the program date.

We will then sign the CEU Program Information Sheet and return it to you for completion after the program is over. Forward the completed information sheet along with a CEU Completion Report (roster) on the specific program to us. We will then be ready to receive any requests for CEU's by your conference participants and can respond without delay.

Please feel free to contact Mike Maxwell, Manager of Registration Services, at (205) 348-8588  if you have any questions or need additional information.
