About the Young Writers Camp

The University of Alabama Young Writers Camp, for rising 9-12 graders, fosters creativity and a range of writing and artistic skills in a fun, accepting, interactive environment. Download information flyer here!

The Young Writers Camp will allow students to choose from a variety of classes and workshops taught by experienced writers covering poetry, fiction, nonfiction, screenwriting for film and TV, graphic novel, and other forms. 

Additional camp activities include:

  • Writing outdoors on a nature hike and bird watching expedition at the UA Arboretum
  • Hands-on experiences in paper-making, book arts, and publication design
  • Attending readings and craft talks by published writers
  • Learning about publishing, college study, and careers in writing
  • Having time for independent writing as well as collaborate on group projects
     

Tuition of $229 per person includes snacks each day, a T-shirt, and writing materials (please bring a sack lunch for your mid-day meal). Need-based scholarships are available. Register online
