Solution-Focused Brief Therapy with Youth and Families

Solution-focused brief therapy is a strengths-oriented and resource-focused approach to counseling backed by research that shows that it is a useful approach for reducing behavioral and emotional problems and increasing academic achievement in school settings.

Course Schedule 

The Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with Youth and Families workshop will take place on Friday, March 9, 2018, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Bryant Conference Center on the campus of The University of Alabama.

Course Description

This workshop explores solution-focused brief therapy and illustrates ways that social workers can use this approach with you and families. Specific solution-focused techniques are demonstrated through video, experiential exercises, and case materials. How to use SFBT in tier one and team approaches are also discussed.

Learner Objectives 

  • Be familiar with different ways to apply solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT) when working with youth and families.
  • Understand the change process of solution-focused brief therapy and how it can be useful to counselors, social workers and teachers.
  • Increase knowledge about specific change techniques of solution-focused brief therapy.
  • Be able to identify ways that SFBT can be used within Tier 1 interventions and within transdisciplinary teams.
