Applied Economic Development Honors Program

Preparing the Next Generation of Alabama Economic Development Professionals

In partnership with the Economic Development Association of Alabama (EDAA), the Academy created the Applied Economic Development Honors’ program with three, 2-day sessions for the state’s emerging economic developers.

If we can teach emerging, young practitioners’ excellence in economic development, their role as change agents in communities and focus on the broad definition of job creation, we can strengthen the foundation established over the past two decades. The Honors’ program is an experiential learning approach that employs a strong definition of economic development which is the “process of creating and expanding wealth, effectively utilizing assets and resources in a community, state or region to grow the economy.”

The curriculum includes:

  • Project Management
  • Lead Generation
  • Business Development Strategies
  • Staff Teamwork
  • Professional Development
  • Personal Development
  • Community Development
  • Sustaining Existing Industry
  • Growing Existing Industry
  • Effective Marketing
  • Economic Issues
  • “Moneyball” analytics and data usage
  • Local Political Dynamics
