 Allison Curington

Allison M. Curington, LCSW

Allison M. Curington, MSW, LCSW, is the Director of Field Education at The University of Alabama School of Social Work. She currently serves on the Council of Field Education Committee (COFE) for the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), which provides support for field directors and educators and produces and disseminates relevant knowledge. In addition to her work with field, Ms. Curington has a wide range of practice experience including school social work, hospice social work, mental health counseling, and private adoption work. Most recently Ms. Curington has been involved with co-authoring the Social Media Toolkit for Field Educators. Training educators, practitioners, and students on using technology and social media ethically is an important part of her work.

Laurel Hitchcock

Dr. Laurel Iverson Hitchcock, PhD, MPH, LICSW, PIP

Dr. Laurel Iverson Hitchcock, PhD, MPH, LICSW, PIP, is an Associate Professor of Social Work in the Department of Social Work at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). One of her research areas is the use of technology in social work education and practice. Since 2016, she has provided continuing education training for over 500 social work practitioners in the ethical use of technology in social work practice. Her role at UAB includes supporting faculty in the effective use of classroom technologies. As an instructor, she trains students in the use of social media, infographics, podcasts, and other tech tools for practice from micro to macro practice. She is currently working on a forthcoming text "Teaching Social Work with Digital Technology" under contract with CSWE Press.
